How to use IRCTC UBI Prepaid Card for Fast Ticket Booking

IRCTC-UBI prepaid card is a co branded card launched by Union Bank of India (UBI) in collaboration with IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism) corporation that can be used on IRCTC website to purchase products/ services available at IRCTC website like railway/ air ticket reservation, season tickets, Holiday Packages etc.

This card is powered by RuPay and it enables customers to carry out robust fast train ticket booking. It works a bit like how eWallet works for fast Tatkal booking  or new IRCTC cash on delivery payment works by saving the time elapsed in online transaction processing in case of credit and debit cards usage. RuPay is an Indian domestic card scheme conceived and launched by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).

The prepaid card comes in two variants - physical and virtual. Both physical and virtual cards are available for purchase on Union Bank/ IRCTC website/ Union Bank branches. This prepaid card can be purchased by any person having a valid PAN card, mobile number, and email address. It is not mandatory to have a bank account to purchase this card.

This prepaid card can only be used on IRCTC website and is rechargeable up to maximum permissible limits as per the card variant.

The minimum amount to be loaded is Rs 500 and in multiples of Rs 100 thereof. The maximum amount shall be Rs 10,000 or Rs 50,000 depending on the type of card (physical or virtual). The card can be recharged for maximum 3 times a day.

To use the card, PIN is required. This pin can be generated by entering card number on Union Bank of India website. Doing this will send a One Time Password (OTP) on the customer's registered mobile number, which can be used to generate new PIN. New PIN can also be generated by calling on call centers of UBI. The customer care executive will verify few details and upon successful verification PIN will be send to registered mobile phone.

The card is activated at the time of purchase, The available balance can be checked any time by visiting union bank of India website.

The first five transaction per card per month done on IRCTC website for purchase of railway tickets shall be free (no transaction charges). For every subsequent transaction post 5 transactions Rs 10 (including all taxes) will be charged.

The card can be used until the last date of expiry as embossed on the card. The prepaid cards issued will have a validity of  years and the virtual cards will be valid for 1 year only.

Customers can also close and get refund of their card anytime. Refunds shall be processed only if the balance remains is more than Rs. 100. Total of Rs. 100 will be deducted as charges applicable to closing of card. The card closure require card number authorization and OTP validation. If everything went alright the refund details and result will be displayed to user on screen online.
