Amazon, a well known electronic commerce company and IRCTC, Indian online ticketing company, have joined hands to tie up to provide best online shopping experience to Indian Citizens.

Doing shopping on amazon is easy. Even a child can do it. It has products for all needs for all men and women.

Amazon sells wide variety of  products through its online marketplace amazon.in. It entered Indian market in February 2012 with its price aggregator and selection website Junglee.com. Later it tied up with private investment firm of IT giant Narayan Murthy (co-founder of  Infosys) known as Catamaran Ventures with objective to scale and accelerate the inclusion of small and medium business, who operate offline, into digital economy by training them in online tools so that they can improve the customer base online as well as improve footfalls and revenues.

Since the early tie ups and ventures, Amazon has come along a long way in establishing itself as one of the players in online retail and shopping marketplace in India. However it is not as popular as some of the others like Snapdeal.com (India's largest shopping site) and FlipCart.com headquartered in Bangalore. New tie up is definitely a step to boost the popularity of Amazon among the Indian Citizens. IRCTC already has a huge user base over 21 million registered users, and it mostly include internet savvy people in age group of 30-45 years, making them ideal audience to become potential customers and buyers of products through internet. These people know how to use their credit cart and internet banking, and amazon will look to exploit it.

There are benefits for IRCTC too. IRCTC entered into online shopping services through joint venture with Shop Online Trading Pvt. Ltd (SOTPL), which operates Yebhi.com’s online store. Yebhi.com and IRCTC expect business of at least Rs.200 crore in the first year of their combined operations. But it never took off and did not reap any major profits. Amazon is such a huge brand name that it is expected to give wings to IRCTC's e-commerce plans too.

Amazon.in sells mobiles, laptops, cameras, books, watches, apparel, shoes and e-Gift Cards and provide free shipping & cash on delivery services to customers. Since it employs a multi-level e-commerce strategy some other large e-commerce sellers use Amazon to sell their products in addition to selling them through their own websites. The sales are processed through Amazon.in and end up at individual sellers for processing and order fulfillment and Amazon leases space for these retailers. Small sellers of used and new goods go to Amazon Marketplace to offer goods at a fixed price.

"The tie-up will give crores of our travellers and customers the joy of an easy and convenient shopping experience. As we have made the online shopping site as our preferred partner for a period of two years," an elderly IRCTC official told. With this tie-up, IRCTC, a railway PSU, will be in a position to offer its customers the best online shopping opportunities in addition to its regular travel ticket booking and hotel accommodation booking services.
