Cancel Railway Tickets Online

To cancel a railway ticket, please login to irctc.co.in, select the PNR you wish to cancel and cancel your ticket online.  You can also transfer your train tickets.
  1. Cancellation of your e-Ticket is possible only on the website www.irctc.co.in, and is NOT possible on PRS Counters. 
  2. Train ticket Cancellation can be done till the time of chart preparation for the train, Chart is ready 4 to 6 hours before the scheduled departure of the train. For trains starting up to 12 in the afternoon the chart preparation is usually done on the previous night.
  3. You are allowed to cancel any/ some of the passengers listed on your railway ticket, without affecting the ticket as a whole.

Steps For Railway Ticket Cancellation on IRCTC

  1. login to your online irctc account.
  2. Go to profile page by providing password.
  3. Select the ticket to be cancelled from the tickets listed in Booked History.
  4. Cancel the ticket. (You can cancel journey of all or some of the passengers).
For tickets booked through IRCTC agents, railway has connected the cancellation of e-tickets with OTP (One Time Password) process.  Individuals who have booked e-tickets via irctc/railway agents will get an OTP along with refund amount on your mobile phone if their waiting list is not confirmed or ticket gets cancelled. You can show it to the agent and get the refund.

Train Ticket Cancellation by Phone Call

Now you cancel your railway ticket by phone call at 139 too. This is useful for those customer who don't use online railway reservation system or app for doing reservation, rather they buy the ticket from Indian Railway ticket counter.
  • Once you have cancelled your ticket, the fresh details and changes made by you will be available on the Cancelled e-Tickets History (as a link to site). 

Refund Amount After IRCTC Ticket Cancellation


  • The refund amount due to you after cancellation will be credited back to the same account which you had used for booking the train ticket online.
  •  The amount deducted will also include the cancellation charges applied by IRCTC.
  • Refund will be a per railway rules.

  • For cancellation of RAC/Waitlisted tickets upto the prescribed time limits, full refund of fare will be given, after deducting the clerkage charges or Rs. 30 per passenger. 

Check Refund Status of Cancelled Train Tickets Online

  1. Users can check their refund status online by clicking 'Refund status' link after logging in.
  2.  If by any reason you are unable to cancel your ticket on the website till the time of charting and also unable to perform the journey, please send a mail to etickets@irctc.co.in at the earliest giving the details of your claim .
  3. IRCTC will represent your case with the railways claims wing to process the refund at the earliest.

  4. IRCTC does not store the credit/debit card information in any form during the transaction.
