Indian Railways has introduced new quota known as "Premium Tatkal Quota"> The premium tatkal class code is  'PT'. You can use this while doing online train ticket booking on IRCTC, especially for reservation in premium special trains which have dynamic fares.

The ticket booking rules, mentioned in  tatkal ticket booking scheme in IRCTC, are applicable to this quota as well. But there are certain rules specific to this newly introduced quota which are listed below for the benefit of users.

  • On opening days booking to be allowed on/after 10 AM.
  • Agents will not be allowed to book tickets in this quota.
  • Dynamic fare shall be charged for confirmed passengers.
  • RAC/ Waitlist Ticket Booking is not allowed under PT quota.
  • Only E-tickets will be permitted for booking. 
  • I-ticket Booking is not allowed with this Quota. 
  • No concession shall be applicable in this Quota. 
  • Child passenger will be charged with full fare. 
  • Identity card number of the prescribed proof of identity is required at the time of booking. 
  • At least one passenger should travel with his/her ID card in original which was used at the time of booking. 
  • No refund is given to passengers in case of cancellation of confirm PT quota ticket. 
  • All rules for tatkal quota booking over IRCTC is applicable to Premium Tatkal quota also. 
It is to be noted that premium tatkal tickets are more expensive than normal tatkal tickets. Sometimes fare can be more than air ticket. If you are interested in knowing how fare is calculated, read this before booking premium tatkal ticket for yourself.

It is clear that by introducing the premium tatkal quota, railway is trying to give the double advantage to the travelers by allowing them to avail the features of premium special trains as well as tatkal quota. This will provide more, and better, chance to regular railway users to get a confirmed railway ticket.
